"Life is as bitter as coffee." High school student Seiichirou Watari lives his life by a simple motto: keep things quiet, pragmatic, and moderate. Due to certain circumstances, he lives and works as a live-in employee at a traditional coffee shop (kissaten) owned by an acquaintance's family. He aims to get through his school years without stirring up trouble, but one day on his way home, Seiichirou discovers that his classmate, Sumika Sumireno, holds feelings for him. However, Seiichirou finds himself in a position where he cannot simply accept her affection. The reason? Sumika is the only daughter of the Sumireno family—the very family hosting him at their coffee shop. In other words, she is someone living under the same roof, practically like family to him. "Hey, Seiichirou-kun... are you avoiding me by any chance?" Feelings accumulate quietly and steadily. The curtain rises on a heartwarming youth romance about two clumsy souls, unfolding inside a cozy coffee shop in the dead of winter—much like snow falling softly over the city.
